A good quarterback is VERY hard to find...

When I look around the NFL and notice all the Quarterback injuries this season, it makes me wonder about the lack of depth available at the most important position in the game.  Any team that has the luxury of one or more QUALITY quarterbacks on their roster is truly lucky and unique! Eagles head coach Andy Reid seems like a genius now for keeping Mike Vick and Kevin Kolb on his roster. Both are capable of being great starters that can lead the offense to victories. Titans coach Jeff Fischer is lucky to have Kerry Collins that took over on Monday night after starter Vince Young went down with a knee injury.

Less than HALF of the 32 NFL teams can say they have ONE high quality QB to start in games. Why are they so hard to find? Why is it always a crap shoot, rolling the dice on rookie quarterbacks we expect to be great? Most turn out to be complete busts. Such as Alex Smith, David Carr, Jemarcus Russell. Trent Edwards, Brady Quinn, Matt Leinhart, and the list goes on....

How can Pop Warner, High School, and Collegiate programs develop these players at a young age to have the skill set, mentally and physically, to become great leaders, poised and smart, with mobility and knowledge of coverages and mental capacity to memorize plays, understand the x's and o's so that the transition from college to the pros can run smoothly. Or some kind of internship program for each position that earns college credit for real  professional experience to know what to expect.

I'm not saying everyone should do this, but all elite programs with highly recruited players should prepare them for the next level. Just a suggestion. The real lack of talented QBs in the NFL really upsets me. 49ers quarterback Alex Smith, former #1 overall pick, is HORRIBLE! He still is starting every game because there are no other options available! The same problem exists for many teams in the league. Including Raiders, Panthers, Browns, Jaguars, Bills, Cardinals, etc.

Even backup quarterbacks are truly limited. What if Peyton Manning, Eli Manning, Tom Brady, Donovan MacNabb go down with an injury? The teams will plunge into the ground like a plane crashing from the sky.

I'm just really frustrated and spoiled being lucky enough to watch two of the greatest QBs of all time from birth til adulthood. (Joe Montana and Steve Young) If you are lucky enough to have an elite QB on your team, don't take it for granted. You should cherish the fact that you can wear your team colors proudly, appreciate knowing you can make the playoffs each year, and believe that he can lead you to victory when behind in the 4th quarter. It's a beautiful thing to have, so feel blessed.

Thanks for letting me ramble if your still reading this. lol
